Nordic walking trails in Bad Arolsen
The starting point for all the trails is the car park near the dam of Lake Twiste.
Nordic Walking Route 70 – 4.4 km
From the starting point the trail runs roughly 150 m uphill, then takes a right turn into the forest. It continues between meadows and fields to Neu-Berich. This village was founded in 1912 as a replacement for the village of Berich, which disappeared in Lake Edersee. The Gothic church, dating from the 13th century, was moved stone for stone by the inhabitants and then rebuilt in Neu Berich. The trail continues through the fields and along the edge of the forest (good viewpoint) until, after passing through the forest, it reaches the lake. Then it takes a right turn to return back to the starting point.
Nordic Walking Route 71 – 6.2 km
This trail offers an almost unlimited experience of nature. From the starting point it crosses the car park and climbs into a small wood. Then it crosses fields, meadows and the edge of the forest until it reaches a ridge with a really wonderful view. Finally, it returns to the starting point through forest and fields.
Nordic Walking Route 72 – 12.4 km
After a short stretch along Lake Twiste, the trail leads through the village of Wetterburg and the residential area of Remmeker Feld. Then it continues past the popular destination for day trippers, restaurant “Fischhaus”, upwards through the forest to the castle moat and the baroque residence in Bad Arolsen. It then runs past the Christian Daniel Rauch Museum (formerly the royal stables) up to the Grosse Allee with the former “new castle,” today a medical psychosomatic clinic of the Tinnitus Institute. Leaving the baroque town, the trail crosses forest and fields to return to Lake Twiste. Passing the beach on the right, and rounding the lake, the trail returns to the starting point.
