Nordic walking trails in Ederbergland
- The trails in Frankenberg:
The starting point for all the trails is the Schwedensteinweg “Meiers Gründchen”.
Nordic walking Route 76 – 4.4 km
From the starting point, go right along the edge of the forest to the meadows, straight into the forest, and, after 100 metres, through the gate of the wildlife park (always open, free admission). Walk past the haystack to the feeding station at the end of the wildlife park. The trail then goes straight to the meadow, where it takes a right turn along the edge of the forest to the “Stätteberg”. On the side road on the left, after 50 metres, the trail 76 and 77 merge. Past the “Totenborn,” a spring, further towards the meadow and downhill to reach the starting point.
Nordic walking Route 77 – 6.2 km
From the starting point to the exit of the game park this route is similar to route 76. Then the trail goes to the right through the valley “Finsterbach” and makes a right turn near the built-up area to the main entrance of the wildlife park. Along the Wildparkstraße up to the traffic island on the provincial road Frankenberg – Schreufa. Cross the train tracks and then continue along the banks of the Eder to the cottonwood glade. Past the industrial site Frankenberg, cross the street and then up the Wald-Feld-Weg. At the side road to the right and then make a sharp turn to the left. From the hill, the route is similar to trail 76.
Nordic walking Route 78 – 9.7 km
From the starting point similar to route 77 up to the industrial site Frankenberg. Cross the street and upwards before the next field. Take the next crossing to the right and make a sharp turn to the left to climb upwards. At the top this trail is similar to trail 76 up to the edge of the forest. Continue straight on from Hermannsholz into the forest and after about 100 metres turn left. Along the Eisenbergweg to “Stempers Graben” (a former brook with alders) and the pond. Continue to the edge of the forest and go past the cattle shed. On the Höhenrücken to the Frankenberger Totenhöhe. Turn right at the next crossing. Trails 76, 77 and 78 merge here.

- The trails in Dodenau:
All trails start at the car park Wildgehege. There you will find a board with all the information you need.
Nordic walking Route 13 – 12.3 km
Differences of altitude of nearly 300 meters first lead you down to the nature reserve Riehgrund and then up to the Kuhwiesenberg. Here you can enjoy lovely views of the Ederbergland. We recommend a detour to the former forester’s cottage Kleudelburg.
Nordic walking Route 14 – 7.9 km
The trail leading through the Holzbach and across the Röhrberg makes the heart of any nordic walker beat a little faster! First of all because the long climb up to the Röhrberg will raise your pulse rate and secondly because the views here are truly amazing.
Nordic walking Route 15 – 3.6 km
This easy trail is a good way to warm up and runs almost completely through open fields with lovely views of the Edertal and the air-cure town of Dodenau.
Nordic walking Route 16 – 3.7 km
Another 3.7 km trail leads through the charming “Jeckenfuß” . The Dodenau wild park is situated along this trail and the newly completed forest practice trail. Here you can experience and learn about indigenous animals and plants. Several educational panels offer information about the forest as a habitat.

- The trails in Rengershausen:
All trails start at the “Haus des Gastes”.
Nordic walking Route 10 – 8.5 km (Waldecker Weg)
We start off to the left across the Nuhnebrücke, then right via the forest, along the water line and above the holiday cottages, then turn left to the Neukirchener Brücke. After the Nuhne we turn left through the churchyard, follow the “Breite Sohl” a little way through the Frankenberger Straße, and then right through the Steinbach to Rengershausen. Marked as walking route RE8.
Nordic walking Route 11 – 7.9 km (Steilhang Weg)
We start off by turning right in the direction of the barbeque site. The water trough is interesting for those of you who enjoy a Kneipp cure. The trail then continues past the steep cliff in the direction of Somplar. In the centre of the village we turn left to the “Kälberstall.” We cross the Rübenblech and the Faule Sohl towards Homburg, and then down to Rengershausen. This trail is marked as walking route 7, and has been set up as a practice trail by the forestry.
Nordic walking Route 12 – 4.2 km (Bergbauernweg)
We start this trail by walking in the direction of the open air swimming pool, along the Rote Mühle and past the water purification plant. After about 100 metres, the trail turns left and starts a gentle climb through Steinbach. Once at the top, it crosses the country road and continues on the other side via the Stietzgrund. Once again the trail meets the road, follows it for about 50 metres to the right and then turns left under the apple trees to take the path to the Nuhnetal and back to Rengershausen. This trail is marked as walking route 9 in Rengershausen and has been set up as a practice trail by the Frankenberg forestry.
