Nordic walking trails in the region of the Burgwald

  • The trails in Burgwald-Ernsthausen:
For all trails, the starting point is the large sports centre.

Nordic Walking Route 17 – 3.6 km
Starting at the large sports centre, this trail follows an asphalted country road through the Wetschaftstal to the edge of the forest. From this point the trail follows a paved forest path, which is passable irrespective of the weather. The short trail has only light ascents. At the half-way point it passes the characteristic forester’s cottage Saubuche and at this point the hiker gets his first glimpse of Ernsthausen. The circular path ends where it began, at the starting point.

Nordic Walking Route 18 – 6.2 km
Like all other trails, this one starts and ends at the sports centre. After reaching the attractive Burgwald mixed wood, the hiker faces an ascent of medium difficulty of 2 km altogether. You cross the west side of the Würzeberg, past an old quarry uphill with regular views at every turn of Ernsthausen in the Wetschaftstal and of the Rothaar Mountains. After reaching a height of some 130 meters, the trail then winds downhill, around the Würzeberg and back to the start.

Nordic Walking Route 19 – 8.5 km
From the sports centre, this trail starts in the forest to the east with a slight climb in the direction of Roda. Following the border path with its attractive views of the village, it reaches its highest point, where it meets the middle trail. The two trails go together along the circular path back to the starting point.

  • The trails in Münchhausen:
The starting point for all the trails is the car park near the Christenberg

Nordic Walking Route 20 – 5.0 km
Beginning at the starting point, this trail follows the same route as 21 and 22, roughly 250 m. slightly uphill. At the fork in the road it veers to the left and after about 1 km it separates from 20 and 21. The trail continues to the left via the Gerhardsberg back to the starting point.

Nordic Walking Route 21 – 6.4 km
From the starting point, this trail and trail 20 go along the forest path up to an altitude of 398 m. Here the trail first goes to the right and then in an arc up to the edge of the forest. Then it follows the edge of the forest for about 200 metres, before dipping into the forest. It follows the forest path for around 600 metres and then turns right in the direction of the Pfaffenköpfe. Skirting around the Pfaffenköpfe to the north, the trail returns to the starting point.

Nordic Walking Route 22 – 8.4 km
From the starting point, this trail runs parallel to 21 up to the fork in the road to the north east of the Pfaffenköpfe. Here it runs left and skirts the Pfaffenköpfe to the south until it returns to the starting point.

  • The trails in Rosenthal:
For all the trails, the starting point is the parking lot Seegerteichhütte.

Nordic Walking Route 23 – 7.4 km
Gänsewiesental to the Herrenbänke, returns via the Hans-Glas-Weg, paved forest path, slight climbs.

Nordic Walking Route 24 – 7.8 km
Rodebachtal to the lake, through the beech forest uphill, paved forest path, around 30 metres public road with a climb in the middle part.

Nordic Walking Route 25 – 11.6 km
Identical to 23 up to the Herrenbänke, via Stern, Wetterweg, with attractive views on the edge of the forest, paved forest path with a climb in the middle part.

  • The trails in Gemünden:
The start and finish is the sports centre Dietrichskehle.

Nordic Walking Route 26 – 3.6 km
This trail leads along a completely flat area. All three variants are on asphalted roads, metalled roads and grass paths.

Nordic Walking Route 27 – 5.1 km
Runs across a hilly area to Galgenberg.

Nordic Walking Route 28 – 9.6 km
Runs through both flat and hilly parts.
