Fortresses & castles
Aside from the many testimonials of pre and early history in Waldecker Land, there are also numerous fortifications from the Middle Ages and Carolingian Ages which might be considered the predecessors of castles of the 10th, 11th, and 12th century. Near Lichtenfels-Goddelsheim, there was a sort of midway station along the ancient high roads. Additional circular walls from the early Middle Ages are found in Korbach-Lengefeld (Hun Basement), below Ehrenburg Castle from the late Middle Ages, northeast of Herzhausen, near Haina (Aulesburg and Fetzgesburg castles), and the most significant wall system is located in Willingen-Schwalefeld (Schwalenburg) at an expanse of 315 x 240 m.
Castle Waldeck
Enthroned over 200 metres above the 27 km long lake we see the symbol of the region, the defiant Castle Waldeck. From the panorama terrace you have a wonderful view of Lake Edersee and the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park. Today the Castle is home to a first class hotel and various restaurants.

Kugelsburg
The Kugelsburg, outside the town gates, is a real attraction with its tower, which can be climbed. It also serves regional dishes. If the weather allows, demonstrations with steppe eagles and falcons are held every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (5 pm) and every Saturday and Sunday (3 pm) until late October.
