Lake Twiste
The Twiste Valley Dam was build to protect the Twiste valley from flooding. The dam itself is located below the community of Wetterburg and is approx. 22 m in height and 280 m in length. Overall, the Twiste reservoir has a volume of 9.1 million cubic meters, thus about half the size of the Diemel reservoir. The lake, about 3 km in length, is surrounded by a lake trail of about 7 km length, devoid of any traffic and accessible to anyone.
Lake Twiste is one of the cleanest reservoirs in all of Germany as not even discharge from water treatment facilities is fed into the lake.
