Diving
The diving zone in Lake Diemel permits dives down to 30 m. Visibility is about 10 m, and a wealth of underwater life may be observed in pike, walleye, perch, carp and white fish. No special permit is required. Diving excursions are not tied to any seasonal or daytime restrictions.
202 million cubic meters of water make Lake Edersee into one of the largest dammed reservoirs in Europe. The dam was built between 1908 and 1914, and the waters of the Eder River was retained slowly. Three villages were flooded in the process. What remained are the submerged remnants and memories of “The Olde Eder Valley”. Each dive will thus become a special adventure!
The Eder Valley Dam is divided in two dive zones (1 and 2) where sailing, surfing and fishing are not permitted. Within these zones, diving is allowed throughout the year and at all times – no permit is required!
During night dives especially, but also during the day, plenty of pike, perch, trout and eel may be encountered. If you are visiting during the months of May, June and July, you will be enthralled by the view in both of these dive zones.
Lake Diemel also offers a special diving zone at the river dam (Diemelsee-Randstraße).
