Let the charm of Korbach cast a spell over you: Medieval town fortifications, majestic gothic hall churches, stone warehouses, half-timbered construction, and the city hall building provide witness testimony of tradition, power, and wealth of the only Hessian member city of the Hanse Guild.
Schedule a visit to Eisenberg (Iron Mountain), Germany’s richest gold deposits, the Korbach Gap (Korbacher Spalte), a fossile discovery site from the Permian Age, including the Procynosuchus, and the outstanding Wolfgang Bonhage Museum in Korbach. An extensive pedestrian zone with attractive boutiques, department stores, and street cafes provides for easy-going shopping pleasure.
A network of hiking and bicycle trails leads you into the unspoiled scenery of the mid-range mountains of Waldecker Land.
A special attraction is the well-preserved picturesque historic town with the medieval twofold town wall ring and the mighty gothic hall churches, as well as the figurine portal of St. Kilian Church created around 1420. Of equal attraction are the historic city hall of 1377 with its Roland, the four gothic stone buildings, and numerous half-timbered homes from the 17th and 19th century.
Korbach is a member of the German Half-Timbered Road (www.deutsche-fachwerkstrasse.de).
Overall, Korbach (Alleringhausen, Eppe, Goldhausen, Helmscheid, Hillershausen, Lelbach, Lengefeld, Meineringhausen, Nieder-Ense, Nieder-Schleidern, Nordenbeck, Ober-Ense, Rhena und Strothe ) as a population of 23,539 (as of June 2011).
