The Diemelsteig – a ‘Hiking in Germany’ Quality Trail
The ‘Diemelsteig’ is both a rewarding as well as challenging hiking trail with a length of 60 km, revealing a particularly scenic part of the Diemelsee Nature Park. It starts in Heringhausen, directly at the Diemelsee, and passes the exhibition mine ‘Grube Christiane’ on its way to Adorf.
The ‘Diemelsteig’ was first certified as a ‘Quality Hiking Trail – Hiking in Germany’ in 2008. Since then, it was recertified triple, the last time in 2017. It is both a rewarding as well as challenging hiking trail with a length of 60 km. It starts in Heringhausen, directly at the Diemelsee, and passes the exhibition mine ‘Grube Christiane’ on its way to Adorf. It continues along the Diemelsee villages of Wirmighausen, Flechtdorf, Deisfeld and Schweinsbühl.
At Hemmighausen, the Diemelsteig meets the well-known ‘Uplandsteig’.
Since the ‘Uplandsteig’ in turn shares a section of the ‘Rothaarsteig’, the result is very interesting hiking combinations. Due to the good marking of the trail with continuous kilometer information, this route may be safely explored.
